The Observation Trail THE main attraction of the area. Extremely photogenic and easily accessible for everyone (wheelchairs should go clockwise around loop). You can be on the rocks in less than 15 minutes from our property. Worthy of multiple trips during same visit and looks amazingly different in sunny or cloudy skies, morning and evening and in every season. Can get close up to the bizarre bands and rock formations the area is known for.

An amazing area to hike around and miles and miles of bluffage and the unique rock formations that Southern Illinois is know for! Please see map below to find out where you can get to the bottom of the Hollow (#1 is easiest and quickest route). Some nice waterfalls but they are wet weather only. There will usually be at least a trickle most of winter with bigger flows following rain. The area is also the climbing mecca of the area with huge amounts of routes. This is a top is our #3 area to explore behind Garden and Rim Rock.

Our newest cabin, constructed in July 2017. It provided us a chance to show our love of the four paws and we had so much fun decorating the cabin. This cabin floor was modeled after our Coyote Hollow cabin but the floor plan was modified to be more open, allow for a private bedroom and loft sleeping area. We are very happy how the cabin came together and we hope you are too. To review the full amenities and make reservations please visit Dog House's cabin page. Additional pictures include: Front of the cabin, fire pit and view Back screened in porch Living Room (Queen sleeper) & Kitchen Dining Area Private Bed Room (1 Queen) Loft (2 Queen's) Journal entry's to follow.

The pavilion is situated among the top three cabins; Bear, Cougar and Deer but it available on a first come basis for anyone staying at the cabins. It has served uses as meeting place for family reunions, weddings and post wedding receptions. It is well lit with electric, BBQ grill, fire ring and picnic tables. If you book the entire place, then you can use the pavilion and the sound requirements are not as stringent but it allows you the freedom to have the whole place to yourself. More pictures to come!!

During our very first visit to the cabins this was the cabin we stayed in, so it has a special place in our heart. We love the location as this cabin has the most opportunity to view the farm animals and the wildlife. The deer have a path that runs from the back property to the front field. They are constantly running back and forth. If you go out when its dark and shine flashlight across the field you can see the reflection of the deer eyes in the field. For a full list of amenities and reservations, please check out Coyote Hollow cabin page. List of supplemental pictures: Front of Cabin & Fire Ring Front and Back Porch with View Kitchen Bathroom Living Room (Fold out Futon) & Dining Room Bed Journal entries to come.

We started with a few chickens as a hobby and soon came to love them as pets. Some, like my Molly, have a loving nature and so much personality. Others, like our Roosty, was a bit possessive. I love to sit in the swing and watch them play, and run. We have several breeds; leghorn, Rhode island red, black and white jersey giants, lavenders and silkies. Two of them, a lavendar and jersey giant turned out to be roosters, so far so good but we will keep a close eye on them. We also have Heckle and Jeckle our two guineas out patrolling for ticks.

We have a two mile perimeter trail, with multiple shortcuts it starts by Dog House or Deer Run but loops through the 77 acres of private land that backs up the Shawnee Forest. Midway through a wet weather stream forms a small waterfall with stone bear bench that makes for nice quiet place to relax. Another point of interest is the rock formation that covers the hillside in boulders and looks like a scene right out of Rim Rock. The trail also connects to the River to River trail, about a 10 mile hike to Garden of the Gods. There are 6 signs located through out the property to show your location as you hike. More photos to come!!

Francis & Daisy came to us via a guest. His children, the donk's primary caretaker, were growing up and moving out. We welcomed them into the family and am so happy we did. They fit right in with their love of food. In the morning and again around dusk you'll hear "heee hawww, snort snort" and that means they spotted us coming out to feed them and they are excited. When you are out and about you might try to feed them some leaves off of a tree. They are very friendly. They live about 25-30 years, in 2017 they were 16 so we have a long time left to enjoy each other.
